jeffw@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your harmless/low-stakes conspiracy theory?3·22 hours agoIf we turned all of global beef demand into grass-fed, we’d literally decimate our output because there’s not enough grazable land.
Even land categorized as agriculturally grazable is often not realistically grazable (think mountains, etc)

In a Friday statement, officials said that 10 children without documentation were identified during the two immigration operations in Camarillo and Carpinteria, Calif., at farms owned and operated by the Glass House Brands Inc.
Customs and Border Patrol commissioner Rodney Scott said on Thursday that the company is now under investigation for child labor violations.
Glass House, in response, stated it never intentionally hired underage workers.

With that being said, this specific tariff shouldn’t impact car prices because they would be exempt under USMCA. However, Trump’s steel tariffs will impact car prices.

Oof. Also, it’s a little sketchy that they had kids working but I’m sure nobody will be held accountable for that part

So just multiplying by 3, that’s closer to $1000. But median net worth for that age range is over 400k, so maybe like $2500.

Isn’t there a thing where they think that the US wasn’t founded in 1776 and there’s some alternate nation and we know because the flag has gold trim? Idk, something like that
jeffw@lemmy.worldto Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•Can we afford to be afraid of nuclear power?393·8 days agoSo… to summarize the argument: we have to build nuclear plants, even though they are the most expensive renewable per kWh and they take the longest amount of time to build (even by the author’s “fast” timeline standards) because we don’t have batteries that can store wind and solar energy, even though there are multiple emerging potential solutions that could result in days-long storage capacity.
Not buying it. I don’t buy the “unsafe” argument but I also don’t buy this argument
Edit: this same publication that published this op-ed published a pretty negative review of this book, funny enough: http://www.theguardian.com/books/2025/jun/02/going-nuclear-by-tim-gregory-review-a-boosterish-case-for-atomic-energy

Now combine them both and do average monthly payment.
Even with higher prices, lower interest rates mean lower monthly costs
